Guidelines for the Rehabilitation and Translocation of Gibbons
Published in 2015 by the IUCN SSC Primate Specialist Group as Occasional Paper No. 51, these guidelines were developed from a 2014 workshop on gibbon rehabilitation, reintroduction and translocation and written by Clare O. Campbell, Susan M. Cheyne and Benjamin M. Rawson. They cover both the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned or injured gibbons for eventual release, and wild-to-wild translocation between habitats, walking through feasibility and risk assessment, health and behavioural rehabilitation, candidate selection, release protocols and post-release monitoring, illustrated with six real-world case studies from a global cooperative management program for Javan gibbons to the use of radio telemetry collars. The guidelines were reviewed and ratified by the IUCN SSC Reintroduction Specialist Group before publication.
